ACC
The Animal Chromosome Count database: the largest curated database of animal chromosomal counts, covering approximately 18,000 species across the animal Tree of Life.
What it does
Chromosome number is one of the most basic descriptors of a genome, yet comparative data on chromosome counts across animals has historically been scattered across the primary literature, one species at a time. The ACC brings that data together: chromosome counts curated across the animal Tree of Life, currently covering roughly 18,000 species, making it possible to ask questions about the links between chromosomal evolution and broader biological patterns and processes at a scale that wasn't practical before.
The ACC is a community resource. Coverage varies a lot by phylum, arthropods and chordates are relatively well represented, while many other phyla still have few or no curated counts, and the database is built to grow as more counts get contributed and curated. If you have chromosome counts for species already in the database, or for species missing entirely, contributions are welcome directly through the site.
